Vintage 1960's Abstract Expressionist "CityScape" Oil Painting Sold
Oil on canvas. No Frame. Signed, but not identified. 12" H x 16" W. This type of painting that I have sold before would most likely have had an ornate frame, with possible gilt, and a linen covered matte, making the whole piece larger in format. This type of painting was generally sold in more upscale furniture stores, art galleries and decorating studios of the era.
Great textural brush stroke work emphasizes verticality of the buildings and background areas.
Figures in the foreground with brick walkway behind them emphasize the perspective of the piece. Great 1960's color palette of turquoise, orange, green & golds, browns & black.
The artist's signature has yet to be figured out. This painting would make a great addition to any Mid Century Modern home or art collection.
