1970 Abstract Soak Stain Drip Oil Painting

A Color Field Painting From 1970 Signed "Grado '70"   Sold

In the manner of Mid Century artist Helen Frankenthaler with references to Mark Rothko and Arshile Gorky. 40" X 30".  Oil on primed canvas. Aluminum frame. Oil paint is diluted with turpentine and soaked or applied with a sponge and or dripped. This unity of paint and canvas emphasizes the flatness of painting as a medium and was one of the "Modern" approaches to painting taken up by the abstract expressionist painters of the Mid Century.
