Unusual 1950's art wall plaque featuring an Egyptian man with painted decorative symbols. The wood panel is mounted on black wrought rods that are then mounted on grass cloth covered homasote board. Measures: 20 1/8" H x 12 1/8" W x 2" D. Great 50's color palette of green, yellow, red & gilt wood with the black wrought iron.

Vintage 70's Mixed Media Print Department Store Prop Display Liza Halston Era

Vintage 70's Department Store Prop Print Mixed Media    Sold

Vintage 70's department store window display prop print being sold in "As Is" condition. I created these multiple prints for a Liza tribute series of display windows for the now defunct Chicago furrier Evans. Liza was appearing at the Schubert theater in her musical play "Shine It On" which became "The Act" when it reached Broadway later that year (1977).

The drawing was first created in pencil from a newspaper photo. Then a drawing was made in India Ink to be copied multiple times - leaving the lips blank to be later painted in by hand on each one. The prints then would be mounted on foam board and stacked & repeated "Warhol" style on the back wall of each display window. The broader idea was to have a mannequin dressed to resemble Liza with other mannequins grouped around her as if they were trying to get her autograph. A red vinyl floor was added for a color blocking dynamic.

It was the 70's.

I recently came across three of the prints that had been stored away for decades. They all had condition issues. One has sold. The remaining two prints have condition issues as well.

With tape residue and a tear to the lower right corner, # 1 is in Good Vintage Condition with a usable area - that a good frame shop could carefully place a matte over to secure the piece - measuring 19" x 24" - entire piece is 21 1/2" x 24". All measurements are 
approximate.

With a few tears to the sides and some fading marks in the hair, # 2 is in Good Vintage Condition with a somewhat larger usable are of 20 1/2" x 24". Entire piece is 21 1/2" x 24".

I retain the original and am considering having new prints made from it.

Oil on canvas. No Frame. Signed, but not identified. 12" H x 16" W. This type of painting that I have sold before would most likely have had an ornate frame, with possible gilt, and a linen covered matte, making the whole piece larger in format. This type of painting was generally sold in more upscale furniture stores, art galleries and decorating studios of the era.

Great textural brush stroke work emphasizes verticality of the buildings and background areas.

Figures in the foreground with brick walkway behind them emphasize the perspective of the piece. Great 1960's color palette of turquoise, orange, green & golds, browns & black.

The artist's signature has yet to be figured out. This painting would make a great addition to any Mid Century Modern home or art collection.

Enameled metal with steel strut supports. A fully rotational hood is a great red/orange with white & blue accents.

Measures over all - 13.5" H x 16" W. Hood is 14" L x 7.25" D. On the sides of the hood are round chrome inserts. Base has pencil tray. 

In good working condition. Metal strut supports that form around the end rods have adhesive strips that are somewhat loose - and a few nicks to the metal base. Lamp is in otherwise

Vintage 70's Mid Century Modern Abstract "Cityscape" Painting. Framed measurements : 37" x 37". Oil on canvas. Black painted wood frame with brass accents. Signed lower right: "R. Styles".

Most likely a "production" painting - either a design executed by one or a team of people from an artist's original employed by the facility. In a brief bit of research, I've traced the name R. Styles to Avante Studios, Inc., a production facility in San Gabriel, CA.

The oil paint in the background is beautifully blended horizontally in shades of gold, green, brown with streaks of white for a night time sunset. These are punctuated by vertical dabs of bright orange, gold, white & black - these dabs have some great texture.

A great addition to any Mid Century Modern home or art collection. Very Good Vintage Condition.  Please email for a complete condition report.

Underside manufacturer stamp partially worn off but I believe it to be made by Rainbow of Sweden in the1960's. The above photo is using a flash to show more of the color of the piece - the below photo is without a flash to show more of the grain.

The interior of this piece has definitely been used but in good shape. Piece measures: 13" H x 10" W at the top & 7 1/4" W at the bottom. All measurements are approximate.

The partially worn Rainbow Made in Sweden manufacturer stamp.

Condition Report: Wear is consistent age & use of an item at least 45 years old. Very Good Vintage Condition. Slight surface wear and one small chip at top rim.
